j______ part 1

note: something i wrote a while back, where i kinda had a space constraint, so there might be some edits. not a huge fan of superheroes/fantasy stuff usually but was given this prompt so let's see. also, it contains heavy references to Germany that might be unclear to some... entschuldigung! i hope that it's still fun! also, this was written when i realised that Deutsch has corrupted my English so please expect super long never-ending sentences...

part 1: modified version of the prompt

When the mysterious pod washed up on the shores of Rursee, it became a sensation. People travelled for kilometres just to glimpse it, convinced that it was living proof of alien existence.

One month after the pod appeared, it opened and a man stepped out. A hush of disappointment came over the crowd as he did, but quickly dissipated when he levitated three metres above the ground. He raised his hand, causing a massive cloud of hot steam to rise from the pod and rocket into the sky.

Then it rained for a week straight across entire Germany; currently an island nation, who now refuses to share borders with nine other countries. (for a period of time, being a geological engineer in Germany was the most ludicrous engineering job)(this line of work is not to be confused with engineering geologists)(please check Wikipedia for more details)

As the rainwater seeped into the ground and flooded homes across the nation, people began developing strange abilities, including levitation, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis, to name a few.

I, a humble worker at a Kolinski’s in Bielefeld, was gifted with the ability to see the future, and I saw that the world was going to end in a matter of weeks. At first I thought it was a dream, until I realised what my superpower was. It was a much crazier experience than déjà vu’s; basically it was like living life twice. Depending on the type of event, it could be a curse or a blessing; more on that later.

Another weird phenomenon that arose was the disappearance of names, as everyone seemed to naturally start to identify themselves with numbers in base-40. I was #5M7, which is actually #8887 in normal numbers. Most people, to this day, still fail to figure out the reason behind the application of this numeral system. We have a pretty good idea why though, albeit it not making that much of a sense; well, murdering people makes sense in a killer’s mind too.

So how would the world end? To be honest, I don’t know. The vision that I saw revealed literally nothing. We would all just evaporate into voidness, it seemed. When the clock would strike midnight on this particular day, it was as if time froze; there was nothing more to be seen and anything to be heard. Of course, we cannot really eliminate the possibility that everyone (or just me) would become blind and deaf —— but that sounds too…lame.

As it also turned out, we were equipped with the tools to stop the destruction of civilisation. Now on a mission to reverse the effects of the mysterious rainfall, I and twelve others travel across the country, hunting for the man who emerged from the pod.

Who were my other comrades? How did we find each other? Where did we have to go? What did we have to do? Why did all of this happen?

to be continued…
