part a: day five

FROM THE ARCHIVES:

I was #5KL^♠︎, a general practitioner in Konstanz. The idea of saving people’s lives enticed me into this career, I knew that I wanted to be a doctor since I was a small boy. Especially after seeing how my sister succumbed to cancer when she was only fifteen. She fought for about three years. She used to loath going to her treatments, and then she stopped resisting because she got used to it; but her attitude changed after we switched to Dr. Schwartz. 

Despite having a very full schedule, Dr. Schwartz somehow still managed to put in the effort to make her patients feel more comfortable, especially the younger ones. At one point, my sister was not allowed to consume sugar so Dr. Schwartz started bringing in Minion pencil toppers. A full set consisted of twelve pencil toppers, each with a unique design, and my sister would be rewarded with one each time she completed her medication on time or when she underwent medical imaging at the radiology. Sure, all doctors try to save lives —— they had to take the Hippocratic Oath —— but you can tell that some are in it just for the social status and money, while only a select group are really there to help people. I vowed to be one of the latter. 

Generally, I do not have much time to read the news, so only huge headlines will be on my radar. I did caught wind of the entire mayhem with The Pod and was aware of the superpowers; but I did not really care since I am responsible for the physical wellbeing of a pretty long list of individuals.

My clinic was busier after the appearance of superpowers due to people not knowing how to manage their superpower properly or being subjected to dumb pranks. I have friends stationed at the hospital who were overworked because of the surge of patients at the emergency room. The medical field were drained. Even thinking back to that period makes me tired. Yet I would not mind if it happened again for a million times. 

My superpower was enhanced vision, which drastically improved my efficiency as a medical practitioner. Instead of having to wait for the patients to get results from scans like X-ray, MRI, CT, etc (before which they would have to wait for an awful long time for an appointment)(and sometimes it would just be too late), I could check for tumours or irregularities with my own eyes. That saved a sizable amount of time and money and also lives because I could suggest more appropriate preventive measures to the patients. 

I did not have to wear my glasses. I could also see viruses and bacterias, and they are really everywhere; please, I implore you to wash your hands all the time and carry a bottle of disinfectant everywhere you go! The distance limit of what I could observe was about two hundred kilometres.

Which was why when #5KJ^♠︎revealed that she was just about a hundred and fifty kilometres away, I tried to look for her. It was love at first sight. She was making tea and mildly burnt herself with hot water but instead of squirming or cursing at herself, she was laughing. I do love myself a tiny psychopath. 

I messaged her privately on TCO before The Game began, a friendship followed, and I was quickly falling in love. I typically do not have to be on call on Sundays, so I arranged to drive to see her in one of the most picturesque and greenest cities in Germany. I used to go there every winter with my family to ski in the Black Forest but we stopped that tradition ever since my sister passed. 

It just so happened that it was my Day when I made the trip and so our first date was to do good; how romantic. We helped to catch cheating partners, with me witnessing obscenities and her going in to take photographic evidence(with backup right outside the perimeters of course); how romantic. We also helped the police to prevent some theft from happening: I would detect intruders and she would go in to trigger the alarm or something. We made quite the dream team; how romantic. 

That proved to be an excellent bonding moment for us and to this day, I still consistently make the weekend trip to spend time with her. When I still had the superpower, I would look at her from afar during my break times to see how adorable she was…which was all the time.
